Auburn University’s Model United Nations (AUMUN) team competed at the Southern Regional Model United Nations 30th Annual Conference held in Atlanta on November 21-23. The AUMUN represented France on a number of committees, including the Security Council, NATO, UNICEF, and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), among others. Students from over 30 colleges and universities from across the nation debated topics such as the prevention of the recruitment of children in armed conflict, the reduction of plastics in the oceans, and the prevention of the re-emergence of chemical weapons in modern warfare. In recognition of a strong showing across all nine committees the team competed in, Auburn’s delegation was awarded one Best Delegation Award, two Most Diplomatic Awards, and an Honorable Delegation Award for its representation of France, which placed the team near the top of the best delegations competing at the competition.
The AUMUN team advisor and coach is Matt Clary from the Department of Political Science. The team is supported by the Department of Political Science and the College of Liberal Arts.
