The USC Dornsife Center for the Political Future (CPF) wrapped up their Spring 2020 Fellows Program recently, which included College of Liberal Arts alumnus Dr. David Hill.
Hill was one of three fellows hosted by the University of Southern California. The fellow held classes, panel discussions, and casual political conversations in the community, which impacted countless students at USC.
Hill, who graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 1970, and master’s degree in 1973 – both in political science – from Auburn University is a leading pollster and research-based strategist. Over the course of his career, Hill has served numerous top Republican candidates across the nation, including over a dozen United States Senators and Governors. He has served members of Congress, state legislators, political parties, and more, including former Florida Governor Jeb Bush. Hill has polled for more than 100 successful ballot measures across the nation, from Alaska to Florida.
“This was an ideal time for me to be a Fellow, given the lively Democratic primary process and my interest in public opinion and voting behavior. The many election-related events sponsored by the Center and its partners at USC were terrific, highlighted by the (former Democratic presidential candidate) Pete Buttigieg appearance and the Super Tuesday forum. I benefited from listening to other Fellows, guest speakers, and CPF staff this term,” Hill said of the experience.
He has also served members of Congress, state legislators, political parties, and more, including former Vice President Dan Quayle, Florida’s first Hispanic Governor (Bob Martinez) and U.S. Senator (Mel Martinez), as well as former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, and former North Carolina Senator Elizabeth Dole, among others. He has directed research projects for, among others, Facebook, Time-Warner Cable, Google, the American Cancer Society, The Humane Society of the United States, the Trust for Public Land, state regulatory agencies, and professional sports teams including the NBA’s Miami Heat and Dallas Mavericks, and the NFL's Detroit Lions, Tennessee Titans, and Denver Broncos.
Each semester, CPF hosts diverse political superstars to spend the semester leading two-unit seminar courses (Political Science 410), as well as hosting office hours, group discussions, and bi-partisan political panels designed to benefit students and the broader community. The Fellows Program provides students with practical experience in politics and is essential in advancing the Center’s mission to bridge political divides by educating tomorrow’s leaders.
Hill received his doctoral degree from Florida State University in 1975. He is the director of Hill Research Consultants, a full-service public opinion and marketing research firm established in 1988. A leading pollster and research-based strategist. Dr. Hill is also an author, writing published works such as The Electoral Challenge: Theory Meets Practice (2010), and Election Demographics, Population Trends and Public Policy (1988).
