About Laura Matthews

Laura Matthews works on philosophy of mind and philosophy of psychiatry. She is especially interested in the mind-body problem, mental causation, and the ontology of mental illness. She explores these and other issues through the lens of the enactive approach to cognition, which attempts to integrate first and third person perspectives on the mind. Her dissertation, which she is currently finishing up at the University of Georgia, uses the enactive approach to solve conceptual problems surrounding mental illness, such as the interaction between biological, psychological, and social causes of disorders.
