CLA debuts alumni series "Thirty Under 30"

The College of Liberal Arts at Auburn University is launching a new initiative that celebrates and honors the work of our young alumni through our ‘Thirty Under 30’ campaign.

The inaugural member class is comprised of a bold, diverse group of individuals who have made an impact from the earliest stages of their respective careers. We invite you to meet two such individuals - CLA alums Cam Brantley-Rios, '15, and Jackson Pruett, '15.

Camren Brantley-Rios, '15, Production Assistant | LucasFilm

Cam Brantley-Rios graduated from Auburn University in 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in public relations. He is currently working as a production assistant at LucasFilm in San Francisco and ultimately hopes to have a screenplay go into production.

Learn more about Brantley-Rios in our Q &A, below:

What was your career path after graduation?
I started my PR internship at Lucasfilm the month after graduation. After the release of “The Force Awakens,” my internship had ended and I moved to Los Angeles to look for work. I did a public relations stint at William Morris Endeavor, a talent agency that represents clients such as Ben Affleck, Rihanna, and Christian Bale. It was the perfect place to understand the entertainment industry because we worked with talent, studios, production companies, trades, etc. Eventually I found myself wanting to do production and came back to Lucasfilm in Northern California.

Would does your job at LucasFilm entail ?
I work under Jason McGatlin, who serves as the head of Physical Production. He’s the Executive Producer on all of our films/shows. He’s the person who essentially makes sure the projects stay on budget and on schedule for the release, although the job entails much more than that. Where I come in is supporting him manage all of our projects and people. That can involve a lot of typical admin work such as arranging trips to set, taking minutes on meetings, charting out production timelines and scenarios, etc. The other half of my job can be super ad hoc – designing a wrap gift for crew or even staffing a red carpet premiere. But usually, I’m just running around making sure Jason is where he needs to be.

What has been your favorite part or experience(s) in your job so far?
Being on set. To see something that was once words on a paper be brought to life on a practical set is awe-inspiring. Especially for a story that takes place in a galaxy far, far away…

What classes and/or professors do you feel best prepared you during your time as a student for your future career?
Julie Huff and Robert French are two professors that I enjoyed for a challenging, but incredibly rewarding experience. The RTVF courses were all super fun too.

If you could go back, is there anything that you would have done differently during your time at Auburn?
Go to more away games!

What’s next for you? Any long-term career goals or aspirations?
My dream is to have a screenplay go into production someday. And eventually I want to be a keynote speaker. I’m just hoping to make some noteworthy stories to tell before that.

Jackson Pruett, '15, Vice President I Business Development & Support I The Shelby Counter Chamber

Jackson Pruett graduated from Auburn University with a bachelor's degree in political science and government, and a history minor in 2015. “I had been around Auburn people for a long time and I saw the kind of person Auburn can produce, the skills set that they have, and really who they are character wise and that was something that I wanted,” Pruett said.

Pruett works at the Greater Shelby County Chamber of Commerce as the Director of Business Development and Support. In his role, Pruett works with existing businesses in the area in addition to recruiting new companies to Shelby county. As a history minor, Pruett believes that the series of courses he took helped him learn about the state’s history and how the narrative of Alabama fits in with what he does day-to-day now in his current position.
