Get to know the student behind CLA Career Services' social media

At the end of the spring 2020 semester, Ainsley McCormick was selected for the 2020–2021 CLA Leadership Fellowship and was assigned to work with CLA Career Services. Here is her story.

Tell us a little about yourself.

My name is Ainsley McCormick and I am a sophomore from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. I am majoring in communication and minoring in women’s studies. In my future, I hope to work for a company’s public affairs department. I’d love to work with public relations or marketing in some aspect, although I’m also considering a career on the journalism side.

How did you start working with CLA Career Services?

I had followed CLA Career Services on social media throughout my freshman year, but I had never really been involved with it until I began the Leadership Fellowship with CLA. I discovered all the many opportunities and connections available to me during this time because of the time spent working with CLA Career Services and the many people behind it.

How has your experience been so far working with CLA Career Services?

My experience working with CLA Career Services has been full of growth. I have loved working with them throughout the fall 2020 semester. I go into Tichenor Hall twice a week and work on social media posts for all of Career Services' social media accounts. I also help during certain Career Services events, although that is all virtual now because of the pandemic. I have found that going into the office really helps me gain a deeper insight into what goes on before, during, and after career service events.

Have you attended any Career Services events this semester?

I have attended plenty of (virtual) Career Services events this semester, including a few career fairs and seminars. Each was so helpful in providing me with great connections to help me in my future career as well as preparing me for that career. My favorite event was the Virtual CLA Career Day earlier in the semester. I attended the morning session with Warner Media, and it was so great to see the opportunities exclusive to Auburn students that this company provides that I otherwise wouldn’t have known about.

What advice would you give other students who are looking for jobs/careers?

I would highly recommend students attend every and any career fair that is available through CLA Career Services. It is so easy to sign up for, and you will hear about opportunities you might otherwise not have known about. Additionally, I always connect with the presenters on LinkedIn following the event, which is a great way I grow my network.

What has been your favorite experience at Auburn?

My favorite experience at Auburn so far has been being a part of a sorority. I became a Delta Zeta my freshman year, and I am so glad for all the friendships I have made during the process. They encourage me to push myself and stay involved on campus, which motivated me to apply for my position with CLA Career Services.

Thanks so much for all of your hard work Ainsley! You, too, can gain valuable skills and knowledge through CLA Career Services. Visit our website to learn more.
