Teaching music is a rewarding career. Like you, we focus on student success. If you’re considering a master’s degree, we can help you reach your goal. Both degrees are offered online and on campus. Our M.Ed. degree can lead to a recommendation for Class A Alabama professional educator certification and can be completed in as little as three semesters (Summer-Spring-Summer).

Our M.S. degree (which does not lead to certification) provides an interdisciplinary graduate-level education for community-based or international music educators.

M.Ed. Degree Overview

The M.Ed. degree leads to recommendation for Class A Alabama professional educator certification.

This program is offered on campus and online.

Coursework — 30 hours

  • Coursework in 3 areas:

    • Music content, ensemble, or applied music, where applicable

    • Music education

    • Education, including educational psychology, research, media, special education*

*RSED 6000/6006 Advanced Survey of Exceptionality is required if a survey of special education course was not previously completed.
