The Flute Ensemble meets twice a week and performs a mixture of large ensemble and small chamber pieces. Members of the Flute Ensemble must have previous performing experience as a flute soloist or as a member of a band or orchestra. New members who are non-music majors will be asked to perform an audition for the instructor during the first rehearsal. Students should prepare approximately 5 minutes of music for the audition. For more information, please contact Virginia Broffitt-Kunzer: (334) 844-3180, firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Clarinet Ensemble is a chamber ensemble open to clarinetists of all majors with Instructor approval. An audition is required for non-music majors. Students study and perform music in various combinations ranging from duos to clarinet choir works. Requirements include daily individual practice, weekly ensemble rehearsals (two to three times per week), and a semesters-end public recital. Additional performing opportunities both on and off campus may be available. For more information, contact David Odom: (334) 844-3184, email@example.com.
The Auburn Saxophone Quartets are comprised of music students and other qualified saxophone performers from the greater student body. The group performs regularly on and off campus for a variety of audiences including professional organizations, schools, and community events. The Tiger quartet also participates in national competitions. Their repertoire extends from traditional classical saxophone quartet music to popular songs and holiday music. This is an audition-based group that meets in fall and spring semesters. For more information, contact conductor Michael Pendowski: (334) 844-3164, firstname.lastname@example.org.
2019 Saxophone Quartet Auditions
Auditions for the saxophone will take place August 22nd from 6:00pm to 7:30 pm.
There will be a meeting of all saxophone ensemble members following the auditions at 7:30 pm. All freshmen saxophonists and all non-majors will audition. Students are required to play a full range chromatic scale and the excerpt below. This audition is to determine which voice a student will play; saxophone majors typically will play at least 3 different voices while majors at the university.
The Double Reed Ensemble is designed for Auburn students who play oboe and bassoon and have an interest in small ensemble playing, with priority given to Music majors. Interested students must demonstrate basic technical proficiency on their instrument by playing an audition for the director. Ensemble members will attend a one-hour rehearsal per week with performances during the semester. For more information, contact Ben Buergel: (334) 844-4163, email@example.com.
