Department of Music
Auditions

If you plan to major in music (or double major) in the following degree programs, you must complete a successful audition for admission to the Department of Music.

  • Bachelor of Music (Instrumental, Piano, Composition (Technology), Vocal Performance, and Commercial Music)
  • Music Education
  • Bachelor of Arts in Music

The audition serves for both entrance/placement and for scholarship consideration. A student is limited to two attempts, one year apart, to complete a successful audition for acceptance to the Department of Music.

If you need to audition, you must apply to the Department of Music through Acceptd, and either submit a video recording or perform a live audition by February 1. See details below.

If you plan to audition for the Department of Music, you must apply to Auburn University by the following dates:

  • December 1- Receive Academic Scholarship Consideration from the University
  • February 1- University Acceptance without Academic Scholarship Consideration

A complete application should be submitted to Auburn University prior to scheduling or submitting an audition. A successful music department audition does not guarantee acceptance to the university.

Live auditions are preferred. Those wishing to audition in-person can audition by appointment on January 18th, 2025 or by scheduling an audition with the applied teacher. Video auditions will only be accepted with approval from your applied teacher.

Students wanting to audition for a degree program in the Department of Music after the February 1 deadline should contact the appropriate applied teacher for scheduling and studio availability. Auditions beyond the deadline are contingent on available studio space and will be considered until the capacity of the studio is reached. At that point, auditions for that particular studio will be closed until additional space becomes available.
