Natalie Smith is a native of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, and is currently pursuing her Doctor of Philosophy degree in Instrumental Music Education, while serving as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for the Department of Music at Auburn University. Ms. Smith serves as an assistant to the University Athletic Bands, as well as an instructor for undergraduate courses. Prior to beginning at Auburn, Ms. Smith served as an elementary instrumental music teacher for Baltimore County Public Schools. During this time, she also served as the Pep Band Coordinator/Director at Mount St. Mary’s University in Maryland, where she built a new band from the ground up to play at their Division I Basketball games.

Ms. Smith holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where she served as president of their chapter of Pennsylvania Collegiate Music Educators Association for three years. Ms. Smith earned a Master of Music degree in Flute Performance from East Carolina University, where she served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for the University Athletic Bands under the direction of Dr. William Staub, and as a graduate instructor for the ECU Flute Studio.

Ms. Smith is also an active performer. She built and taught a private studio for flute, saxophone, and piano consisting of students ranging from elementary to college, and was a frequent clinician and adjudicator in Eastern North Carolina. In addition to collegiate ensembles, Ms. Smith performs as a free-lance artist performing many premiere pieces and recordings, as well as a guest in many ensembles such as the International Fellowship of Conductors, Composers, and Collaborators (IFC3), Eastern Symphony Orchestra, New Carolina Sinfonia, and the Trent River Chamber Orchestra.

Ms. Smith’s professional affiliations include the National Association for Music Education, Pennsylvania Music Educators Association, Maryland Music Educators Association, the National Flute Association, Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, Sigma Alpha Iota Music Fraternity, Tau Beta Sigma National Honorary Band Sorority, and Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity.
