Dr. Joel C. Jones, a native of Chicago, IL began his teaching career in 1978 where he taught music at Faulkner Private School in Chicago. A year later in 1979, he was employed as a music instructor and Artist-in-Residence at Wiley College in Marshall, TX, where he taught for seven years. Beginning in 1989 until 1994, Dr. Jones then served as adjunct professor of piano at Oakwood College in Huntsville, AL and an Assistant professor of music and choir accompanist at Alabama A&M also in Huntsville, AL. 

In 1994, Dr. Jones joined the Alabama State University music team where he served as Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities. He has performed solo recitals across the Southeast and has performed chamber recitals at the University of Alabama, Montevallo University, Talladega College, and Alabama State University. Dr. Jones is the recipient of the Legacy Award in Music Education and was most recently honored at the Biennial Festival of Spirituals VIII in Huntsville Alabama. 

Dr. Jones retired from his full-time position at Alabama State University in 2016 and currently serves as Collaborative Pianist at ASU and Auburn University
