Elba's Giving Garden gives back to the community

Auburn University’s Oquendo Bernard is harvesting good things during his summer of Living Democracy in Elba. Among his many activities, Oquendo helps out with Elba’s Giving Garden, harvesting a bounty of summer vegetables regularly donated to the local food bank.

When he is not in the garden, he may be having an adventure with Pea River Outdoors or meeting with local officials about community plans.  Oquendo, a member of Auburn University’s track team from St. Thomas, Jamaica, said his summer is living up to his expectations by providing opportunities to “connect more with my environment and the state of Alabama.”

Oquendo is also helping his community partner Justin Maddox by managing social media accounts for Pea River Outdoors and the Giving Garden this summer. To learn more visit:
