Thanks for summer of learning in Elba
Thanks for summer of learning in Elba

It is hard to put into words what my time here in Elba this summer means to me. I have made friendships that will last a lifetime and memories that will never be forgotten. I’m so lucky to have gotten the opportunity to call this city my home for the past ten weeks, and I will miss it dearly.

When I first learned about the Living Democracy experience, I couldn’t think of a better way for me to spend the summer before I began graduate school this fall. Living Democracy put students in communities across Alabama to work with people and organizations. I am interested in pursuing a career that involves civic engagement and community development, and this was the perfect opportunity.

Collinsville Teaches the Importance of Community
Collinsville Teaches the Importance of Community

When I was first informed that my summer as part of Living Democracy would be in Collinsville, Alabama, I was excited and nervous. My time in Collinsville this summer has been one of new experiences, learning hard lessons, and growing as a member of civic society. I have learned what it means to contribute as a member of a community.
