I was riding on a bus in Auburn when I got an email describing a civic adventure of sorts. Because of my 10 weeks in Roanoke, I began to understand the intricacies of local civic life a bit better. But, more importantly, I’ve discovered the peculiar kind of spirit Roanoke has, and I love it.

- Roanoke Rotary Club supports 'crowning jewel' on Main Street

Roanoke’s Rotary Club meets every Thursday to discuss projects over lunch. I attended a weekly meeting in the basement of the Main Street Baptist Church. During the meeting, Rotarian Tina Leath announced a multitude of events the Rotary Club will be facilitating in the coming months.

- Tour East Alabama works together to promote tourism

On June 23, Tour East Alabama conducted a meeting at Cheaha State Park. The meeting took place inside of Bald Rock Lodge. Twelve attendees representing Calhoun, Chambers, Clay, Cleburne, Coosa, Randolph, Talladega and Tallapoosa counties gathered with a common goal of promoting tourism in East Alabama.
