Apply Now to Participate in 2017 Summer

The Living Democracy program provides a unique living-learning experience for selected Auburn University students in the summer of 2017. Students are paired with a participating Alabama community for a ten-week experience in civic engagement and community development. Students work collaboratively with community partners and local citizens to design, execute, and evaluate community projects. Housing is provided by the communities and students are able to earn an $1,800 stipend for their work. Students will be required to take a 1-hour course in the spring of 2017 in preparation for the summer ahead. Living Democracy is supported in part by the David Mathews Center for Civic Life, and students will hold the title of Jean O’Connor-Synder Interns throughout their participation.
