George Petrie Award Outstanding Paper Award
The George Petrie Outstanding Paper Award is given to the student who submits the best essay on a historical topic from a department course. The submission can be made by the student directly or as a result of a faculty nomination. Papers should be submitted, with clear indication of the purpose of the submission, to the Department Chair, History Department, 310 Thach Hall, Auburn University, AL 36849.
The award is given in honor of Dr. George Petrie, the founder of the Auburn University Department of History. Though perhaps better known as the first football coach and author of the Auburn Creed, Dr. Petrie was perhaps even more influential as a member of the faculty who taught many decades of Auburn students.
