About Me

Prior to joining Auburn’s PhD program in 2019, Stephanie Womack taught U.S. History, Western Civilization, and World History at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Her master’s thesis explores the tenure of William Charles Cole Claiborne as the governor of the Orleans Territory and first elected governor of the State of Louisiana. Earlier in her career Womack practiced law with firms in New Orleans and Birmingham. Her legal practice focused on defense of automative manufacturers, trademark disputes, and insurance defense. Her trademark litigation included representation of ESPN, Time, Inc. and the successful defense of a client in a landmark case decided by the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals.

Between her careers in law and academia Womack owned a women’s clothing store in Cahaba Heights. Her son attends Auburn University as a freshman. In her spare time she enjoys dabbling in interior design and photography.
