Carrie Spell received her BA in English from Cornell University and her MA and PhD in Creative Writing from the University of Southern Mississippi's Center for Writers. A fiction writer, her short stories have been published in more than thirty journals and magazines, including McSweeney's, Mississippi Review, Black Warrior Review, New World Writing, Georgetown Review, Beloit Fiction Journal, and Nightsun. Her work has been awarded a Henfield Prize and nominated twice for a Pushcart Prize. She has served as an Assistant Editor for both the Mississippi Review and Pindeldyboz, and has guest edited online issues of Mississippi Review Web and Opium Magazine. Auburn University’s English Department awarded her teaching with the 2010 Instructor Award.
