Dr. Emily C. Friedman's Recent Publication

We are eager to announce Dr. Emily C. Friedman’s essay, “Considering Johnson’s ‘Nose of the Mind’ and Mind’s Nose: Olfaction Deployed and Suppressed in the Age of Johnson” has just appeared in Revision and Reappraisal: New Essays on Johnson and His Circle (Bucknell 2018). The essay discusses a passage in the Life of Johnson that involves " … a curious discussion of the difference between intuition and sagacity; one being immediate in its effect, the other requiring a circuitous process; one [Johnson], observed was the eye of the mind, the other the nose of the mind. Dr. Emily C. Friedman is an Associate Professor; Eighteenth-century British literature and culture, the novel, history of the book, textual criticism in the Department of English.
