Opelika-Auburn News internships

Are you a journalism student at Auburn who needs an internship and wants to work at a daily newspaper but would rather not leave the Plains for a semester? Apply for a paid spring internship at The Opelika-Auburn News, where we’re looking for talented student journalists – primarily news reporters but also photographers, videographers and social media managers – to help us bring great local stories and content to our audience of more than 100,000 digital users per week.

The O-A News is a division of Lee Enterprises, which owns 89 local media platforms in 26 states. We’re working to build a talent pipeline from Auburn University where we can give college students real-world journalism experience and then move them into full-time jobs here in Auburn, give them the opportunity to tell powerful stories that empower citizens and help improve communities, and then find them a job in a bigger market, advancing their careers and creating opportunities for more AU interns and graduates.

An internship at the O-A News would give you a chance to do ambitious, important work covering the booming town and campus where you’ve spent some of the best years of your life. We’ll treat you like a regular member of our staff and give you an opportunity to go after big stories.

Importance coverage areas for us include housing and development, the food scene, the effect of SEC football on the local economy, secondary schools, crime and courts, people who inspire the rest of us, and all things Auburn University.

Are you curious? Do you know a good story when you see one? Are you comfortable using social media to figure out what’s happening and to engage an audience? Are you tough-minded? Do you make your team stronger?

If so, we want to talk to you. Send an email to Dimon Kendrick-Holmes, O-A News editor, at dkendrick-holmes@oanow.com, and attach your resume and links to your best work. We plan to start making decisions and filling available intern slots in October.
