Jennifer Wood Adams is an Associate Professor and Director of the School of Communication & Journalism at Auburn University. A former reporter, features editor and page designer, Dr. Adams worked for The News Guard in Lincoln City, Ore., the Martinsville Journal in Martinsville, W.Va., and The Republic in Columbus, Ind. She also served as the publications editor for the South Carolina Press Association in Columbia, S.C. She has worked as a senior project manager for Elrick and Lavidge, a marketing research firm in Kansas City, Mo.
Dr. Adams has worked with PACERS (Program for the Academic and Cultural Enhancement of Rural Schools) and its Community Documentation projects since 2007. Through the Community Newspaper Project, students publish newspapers and serve their communities by providing professional quality local media. Many of these communities are no longer served by local newspapers. In the videography portion of the project, students videotape interviews with community members and elders to document the history of the area and edit the interviews together to present to the community.
She received a bachelor's degree in journalism and political science from Ball State University, a master's degree in journalism from the University of South Carolina, and a doctoral degree in journalism from the University of South Carolina.
Her research interests focus on journalism education, community journalism and newsroom management issues.
