Fall Semester Speaker Series 

Madeline Burkhardt (ART) - Thursday, Aug. 23rd

Madeline Burkhardt is the current Adult Education Coordinator and Curator at the Rosa Parks Museum at Troy University Montgomery. She recently graduated from Johns Hopkins University’s Master of Arts program in Museum Studies. Madeline received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History with a minor in Italian Studies from Auburn University in 2015. She was also in Auburn’s Honors College.

Recently, she has been invited to present at the University of Leicester’s Museums (em)Power conference in September; she is very excited to be traveling to England! Madeline is involved in numerous organizations such as Leadership Montgomery’s Torchbearers Class X (21 Dreams Art Walk Project Group), Montgomery Museum of Fine Art’s Junior Executive Board (Marketing Chair), Junior League (Chair of Ad-Hoc Diversity and Inclusion Committee, League Logs, and College and Career Night Committee), Southern Poverty Law Center’s Alabama Youth Justice Coalition, Triumph Service’s Junior Board (former Vice President), and EMERGE Montgomery (member of Art in the Dark Committee).

During her time at Auburn, she spent two of her summers studying abroad in Sicily with the Italian Department and in Paris with the Art History Department. In her free time, she enjoys photographing cityscapes and food, spending time with her French Bulldog Snow, going to all Auburn home games, and rewatching The Crown on Netflix. 

 

Darrell Bilbrey (POLI) - Thursday, Sept. 20th

Darrell currently serves as the VP of Corporate Systems & Business Intelligence at Encompass Health Corporation. In this role he has responsibilities for HR, Financial and Supply Chain software; Database Administration and Systems Integration; Data Warehousing, Business Intelligence and Analytics; Application Development, Quality Assurance and Application Support; along with Health Information Exchange strategy and integration.  

Prior to joining HealthSouth in 2011, Darrell spent 17 years at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama where he most recently served as their Director, Enterprise Architecture and Chief Architect. Prior to his time at Blue Cross he worked for 2 years at Infinity Insurance and 6 years as an active duty U.S. Navy Officer.

He is a 1985 graduate of Auburn University in Political Science/International Relations and was a member of the Navy ROTC unit. He also received his MS in Management from National University in 1991.

 

Adelita Greeson (FLL in Spanish) - Thursday, Oct. 18th

Adelita Greeson is a Corporate Trainer Consultant with the Leadership and Professional Development team at TSYS. Her role is primarily focused on facilitation, sustainment and management of leadership skill development and team effectiveness activities. 

With more than 20 years of experience working with TSYS leaders, their teams, and TSYS clients, Adelita brings a unique blend of experiences and knowledge to the corporate trainer role. During her time as a client trainer, she leveraged her fluency with the Spanish language and her understanding of multiple TSYS processing systems to successfully manage client training projects and build relationships with clients and TSYS teams.

Adelita serves as the principal point of contact for team effectiveness activities requests. She and the team have a strong reputation for working with leaders to customize team activities to focus on achieving the desired results. Through an ability to establish environments which are conducive to sharing, learning about oneself and applying new skills Adelita and the team influence behaviors, attitudes and skill application for team members throughout the company.

Between her undergrad and finishing her master's degree at Auburn University, Adelita served two years as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Dominican Republic. She taught Spanish at both the university and elementary school level.

 

Michael Waller (PSYC) - Thursday, Oct. 25th

Michael Waller is a 1975 graduate of Auburn's College of Liberal Arts.

After graduating from Auburn, Mr. Waller obtained his law degree, and went on to practice energy and international law as a resident partner for a large law firm in Houston, Washington DC, Moscow and London.

In 2000, Mr. Waller was named Executive Vice President and General Counsel for the international food retailer, Delhaize Group, based in Brussels. In addition to serving as the company's top lawyer, he also served as President of the company's Indonesian subsidiary, resident in Jakarta.

Since 2013, Mr. Waller has served as Special Counsel for a large law firm based in Washington. He is also a Council Member at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, a Washington think tank chartered by the U.S. Congress as the living memorial to former President Woodrow Wilson. In addition to living and working on three continents, Mr. Waller has visited over 60 additional countries.

 

Claudia Brooks D’Avanzo (COMM) - Thursday, Nov. 8th

Claudia Brooks D'Avanzo is founder and president of Creative Communications Consultants, a marketing communications and public relations agency started in 1998 in Atlanta. With more than 25 years’ experience, she has designed national, award-winning programs in consumer and lifestyle marketing, hospitality, retail, travel, sports marketing, healthcare, B2B and non-profit. In 2008, the 10th anniversary of CCC, she created Altruistics, a practice specializing in marketing services for select non-profits.

Prior to starting her own agency, Claudia was a senior vice president for Fleishman-Hillard International Communications, where she worked for eight years. While at FH, she managed the consumer marketing and healthcare practices for the firm's Southeast headquarters office, running national accounts from that office. Before FH she was with Manning, Selvage & Lee and began her career working in public affairs for Lockheed Martin.

Claudia’s expertise covers strategic planning, program management, marketing communications, content marketing, experiential campaigns and special events, national promotions, media relations, social and digital campaigns, influencer alliances, grassroots marketing, and crisis/issues management. Her work has been honored with 10 Phoenix Awards from the Public Relations Society of America, four Gold/Silver Quill Awards from the International Association of Business Communicators and a President's Citation for Private Sector Initiatives.

A native of Marietta, GA., she attended Auburn University (War Eagle!), earning a B.A. in speech communications with a minor in journalism. She holds an M.A. in English Literature from Georgia State University. She is a past chair of the PR Advisory Council for the Department of Communications/Journalism at Auburn, where she established the William T. Brooks Endowed Scholarship in Public Relations in honor of her father. In 2018 she was named a “Top Tiger” by Auburn’s Raymond J. Harbert College of Business, which recognizes top fastest-growing companies led by AU alumni. Claudia and her husband Michael have two children – Arielle, a University of Georgia alum and senior account manager with CCC, and Adrian, an Honors senior at UGA. When they’re not working, traveling or visiting the kids, Mike and Claudia can usually be found on their rural Alabama farm where they spend most of their time mucking stalls, chasing chickens, building campfires and gazing at the stars.
