World’s Top Oil Reserves (2011)
Iran’s Oil Reserves
Iran’s oil reserves rank third largest in the world, excluding Canada's' unconventional oil reserves. Iran’s oil contains about 10% of the world’s proven petroleum reserve. More than half of Iran's oil reserves are found in five giant fields, the largest field being the Marun field, which produces approximately 520,000 barrels per day. Roughly 18% of all Iran’s oil exports go to the European Union.
In addition to the known oil reserves, Iran still has great potential for undiscovered oil fields in areas like the Caspian Sea, North East, Central Kavir, and the Central Persian Gulf.
