Director: Barry Burkhart, PhD
Barry Burkhart received his B.S. in Psychology from Florida State University in 1970 and his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology in 1974, also, from Florida State University. He completed his internship in Clinical Psychology at University of Southern California-Los Angeles County Medical Center. Currently, he is Professor and Chair of the Department of Psychology, where he has been on faculty since 1974. He has broad recent interests in assessment and treatment of problems resulting from violence and victimization. Currently, he is co-director of a treatment program for juvenile sex offenders incarcerated in a state training school. He is a Fellow of Divisions 12 and 29 of the American Psychological Association and is a Fellow of the Academy of Clinical Psychology of the. American Board of Professional Psychology. He is a founding partner of a large psychology practice and has been a practicing clinician since 1975.

Research Coordinator: Kelli R. Thompson, PhD
Kelli Thompson is a postdoctoral research fellow and instructor at Auburn University. She received her B.S. in Human Development and Family Studies from Auburn University in 2005. She then went on to receive her M.A. in Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary in 2008 and her Ph.D. in Applied Developmental Psychology from the University of New Orleans in 2016. Dr. Thompson has worked with the Mt. Meigs project since 2010 when she started as a post-baccalaureate research assistant. Her broad research interests pertain to the assessment and measurement of psychopathology in adolescents adjudicated for illegal sexual behavior. During graduate school her work focused on the measurement of the forms and functions of aggression within this population. More recently, she has focused a specific interest in the area of healthy sexual development and the assessment of relevant risk and protective factors for this unique juvenile offender population. As the research coordinator with the lab, Dr. Thompson oversees the day-to-day functioning of the lab and manages the recruitment, training, and coordination of the undergraduate and graduate research team. She prides herself on student mentoring and getting students involved and invested in undergraduate research opportunities as well as preparing students for successful entry into graduate school.
