“Consent is Sexy” is a catchphrase of the sex-positive and 3rd wave feminist communities, and it’s totally true – but it’s also more difficult than it sounds, especially with no guidance and no practice. This workshop will construct a real-life definition of consent, discuss the difficulties and problems many of us have in living the “consent is sexy” motto and most importantly, provide a workshop space for you to practice communicating about consent in ways that are comfortable, clear, and sexy!

The College of Liberal Arts Inclusive Excellence Conference is organized by the CLA Inclusive Excellence office to offer undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, staff and the community the opportunity to propose research that explores points of collaboration, conflict, influence and reinvention of the many factors related to diversity, equity and inclusion in research, academics and community engagement.
This year’s conference titled “Inclusive Excellence Across All Disciplines: In the Classroom, Research and Community” will include topics such as: - Student access and persistence\t
- Inclusive excellence faculty development\t
- Institutional change and capacity building for inclusive excellence\t
- Evaluating institutional systems toward modeling inclusive excellence\t
- Fostering and facilitating inclusive community engagement and outreach
The keynote speaker is Anthony Danner, a lecturer in the School of Communication and Journalism. As a researcher, Danner examines political reactionarism through the lens of fan studies and theories of play. His dissertation explores how the combination of brand culture, platform logic and fan play can manifest into consumer identities that embody reactionary politics. As part of his commitment to diversity and inclusion, Danner serves in Auburn University’s Advocates and Allies program, as well as the Diversity, Inclusion and Social Justice committee for the School of Communication and Journalism.
The plenary panel includes Jeremy Ellis, President of the Clotilda Descendants Association and a 2003 Auburn engineering alumnus. Ellis is a sixth-generation descendant of two Clotilda survivors, Pollee and Rose Allen. To date, the Clotilda is the only ship that has been found from the historic Transatlantic Slave Trade and its remains are laying on the bottom of the muddy Mobile River.
The Auburn University Mosaic Theatre Company will perform an original work encouraging dialogue creatively in the movements of equity, diversity and inclusion in the classroom, on campus and throughout the community.
The CLA Inclusive Excellence Conference is free and open to all Auburn University students, faculty, staff and the community.
