Backscheider receives Women of Distinction Faculty Leadership Award
Paula Backscheider, the Philpott-Stevens Eminent Scholar in the Department of English, received the 2017 Women of Distinction Faculty Leadership Award.
Each year at the Women’s Leadership conference, an annual campus event hosted by Women's Center, Auburn University honors an undergraduate student, graduate student, faculty member, administrative and professional staff member, staff member and alumna who demonstrates exemplary leadership abilities. Recipients of these awards have proven that they lead with courage and create innovative solutions while inspiring and uplifting their communities.
“I have always felt more like a facilitator than a leader, and I would like to thank all of you who have shared your dreams and visions with me. And no one can set up to be a mentor. You have to be chosen. Those who have chosen me have enriched my life immeasurably,” Backscheider said.
All award winners are recognized at a conference luncheon each year and honored with a certificate of their achievement. Last year, Dr. Angela Colvin Burque, professor of social work in the Department of Sociology, Anthropology and Social Work, was the 2016 Women of Distinction Faculty Leadership Award. And Barbara Yates, office supervisor in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, was the 2016 Women of Distinction Staff Leadership Award recipient.
Congratulations to all of our faculty and staff award winners!
