Scholarships and Awards for History Majors

The History Department is pleased to be able to recognize student achievements and to honor many of our students with scholarships and awards. These scholarships and awards have been made possible by the aggregate contributions of many alumni and friends, some through small annual gifts and others as part of substantial endowment funds.

The History Department provides these scholarships and awards to eligible students through the new Auburn University Scholarship Opportunity Manager (AUSOM).  Students can easily search, review requirements, apply, and accept awards for available scholarship opportunities. The application deadline for most of these scholarships and awards is March 1, 2016. Students are encouraged to review the criteria for these awards and to apply before the deadline. If you have questions about any of these scholarships and awards, please contact the History Department Undergraduate Program Officer.

More broadly, the College of Liberal Arts provides College and Departmental Scholarships to eligible students through the same Auburn University Scholarship Opportunity Manager (AUSOM). These scholarships and awards include a) General Academic Scholarships, b) Academic Enrichment Scholarships, and c) Undergraduate Research Fellowships, d) Student Travel Award for Research Grant. Again, students can easily search, review requirements, apply, and accept awards for available scholarship opportunities. Interested students can apply for all institutional scholarships using this online application. The application deadline is also March 1, 2016. More information about these CLA scholarships and awards is available here.

Please note that several awards to history majors require students to BOTH apply through AUSOM and also submit materials to the History Department. Students wishing to be considered for the Malcolm C. McMillan and the George Petrie outstanding paper awards will also need to submit a paper to the Undergraduate Program Officer via email attachment or in the History Department office in 310 Thach Hall.
