David Christian Brooks (Auburn History Ph.D., 2001) wrote his dissertation on "The Linguistic Conquest of Spanish America: First-Contact Interpreters and Translator Acquisition Strategy as Primary Cause of Military Conquest, 1492-1565" under the direction of Professors Donna Bohanan and Marie Francois.
